POLAND 2016!!!

The Danish and Norwegian artists Wilson & Alme canceled their conceptual art exhibition OBJECTS OF DESIRE at the Galeria fwd www.galeriafwd.pl in Poznan, Poland, the night before the opening because the exhibition was censored.

Four fictional advertising posters presenting young men as erotic objects were too politically incorrect under the present catholic-conservative government. The gallery owners refused to expose them. Questioning established gender positions seems to be a taboo in today’s catholic Poland.

The art exhibition shows how young men of today are becoming more and more erotic objects (as an example by the fashion industry) in the same way, as young women have been erotic objects for centuries.

The artists see this as a positive and logical development in a social context where women and men are becoming more and more equal. In a Scandinavian perspective this development is obvious.

It is quite clear that there is a general fear of breaking moral taboos in today’s Poland, – a country that now introduces the most restrictive law on abortion in Europe and where the Catholic Church is gaining more and more influence on cultural life.

NEXT EXHIBITION: CANCELED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

W&A “OBJECTS OF DESIRE” – “fwd..” GALERIA POZNAN 29.09-19.10. 2016

The exhibition OBJECTS OF DESIRE focuses on the young heterosexual man of today. For the last centuries the woman has been the dominating object, artistically and sexually. But the social development especially in the Scandinavian countries is changing gender conceptions and positions in a revolutionary way. Today the Scandinavian man, heterosexual or homosexual, sees himself as an aesthetic and erotic object just like women has done for ages.

The exhibition, composed as four different artistic events, asks the question if this radical social, political and sexual change of the man’s gender perception also is present in the Polish society of today.

In 2013 Barbara Wilson and Rolf Alme started to collaborate as W&A making conceptual art works making use of a whole range of artistic expressions from the classical painting, video, installations, performance and theater.

Rolf Alme is graduated from Oslo School of Architecture in Norway, Dresden School of Fine Arts in the GDR and the National School of Fine Arts la Cambre in Brussels, Belgium. He is professor of scenography. The last years he has been directing his own performances at theaters in Norway, Denmark, Belgium and Poland.
